Conservation for the People
A: List the major ideas, concepts or key points- point by point
B: Summarize the AUTHOR’s main point or idea- at LEAST 1-2 paragraphs
The author's main point is to inform us on what we should do to conserve the environment, animals, and the world. We should also conserve the wildlife because if we don't conserve them then the ecosystem would be unbalance because every animal in this world has a role that contributes to this ecosystem. When one things is taken away or if something goes wrong then the whole thing is messed up, and that's how ecosystems and this world is.
C: Write a reaction paragraph to the article stating your own thoughts on the topic, using specific citations from the article to support your views
We need to conserve the environment and the animals that are living on it and that is why I agree 100% with this article. I understand that animals aren't the first thing to worry about but we need everyone to understand that the littlest change in a good way for the animals you make, can cause a huge difference. We need to help our animals before it's too late and they are all extinct because we need to prevent that from happening. Let's make a change!
So What?
Now that we know this information we can do something to help conserve our environment and everything. We should stop cutting down trees and harming our environment, and do the complete opposite, which is to save and conserve the environment.
Says Who?
Peter Kareiva and Michelle Marvier
What If...?
What if all species were extinct?
Then this planet would be completely ruined and humans would start dying.
What Does This Remind You Of?
This reminds me of the coyote lab because they both are based on how every animal is important. We need to conserve these animals or one thing will lead to the other and it will soon lead to us dying if all of the animals die and the whole world will just stop.
- Conservation needs additional principles to guide it. Although people may not comprehend the concept of biodiversity, they do value nature as a source of food, fuel, building materials, recreation and inspiration.
- Florida panhandle, a partnership between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Nature Conservancy is working to identify areas of joint concern for public well-being and traditional conservation.
- Mapping the top 10 or 25 locations in need of protection in terms of native plant richness, conservationists should generally seek to identify life raft ecosystems- areas with high rates of poverty, where a large portion of the economy depends on natural systems and where ecosystem services are severely degraded.
- In 2004 the World Conservation Union placed three vultures— the long-billed, the slender-billed and the Oriental white-backed—on the critically endangered list.
- Populations of all three reached nearly 40 million in India and South Asia in the early 1990s but had fallen by more than 97 percent.
- Earlier conservation campaigns had centered on charismatic species such as pandas, whales and seals.
- When India's vultures started dying, the ramifications for humans were not immediately clear - until the threat of rabies from increased number of feral dogs feasting on animal carcasses made the link explicit. Saving wildlife often saves people too.
- One recent survey showed that only 30% of Americans have heard of the term " biodiversity"
- More forests and wetlands will be cleared for agriculture, and more ocean species will be fished to depletion. Biodiversity is going to decline.
