The Lorax vs. Easter Island Compare & Contrast Essay
Have you ever thought about big changes and not how they benefit our needs but how they affect the environment? Well, in "Easter's End" from the Discovery Magazine August 1995 issue it says, "Corrective action is blocked by vested interests, by well-intentioned political and business leaders, and by their electorates, all of whom are perfectly correct in not noticing bug changes from year to year." In the original movie "The Lorax" and the article "Easter's End", big changes were happening that not only affected the environment but human beings like themselves also. They found natural resources that benefited their needs but killed the animals and environment around them. Nobody comes to realization that everything is dying around them until everything is gone.
In both, The Lorax and Easter's End, doing the right thing was overridden. In The Lorax, trees were getting cut down as well as in Easter's End. As they were cutting down trees they were slowly killing insects and animals that needed the trees to survive. From the start in both The Lorax and Easter's End, their outside surroundings were beautiful until everything slowly started to vanish until nothing was left.
Unlike in "Easter's End, in The Lorax, cutting down trees was started by one person then more and more people began to help. Both did cut down trees but for different reasons, in The Lorax, they cut down trees to make thneeds which gave them a good profit. In Easter's End they cut down trees to make canoes and to provide housing. The Easter islanders ere in competition to get a higher status than other groups unlike in The Lorax, in which they made thneeds "that everyone needs" to make money. New technology helped make the thneeds faster however, it was a type of technology that Easter islanders did not have.
In conclusion, nobody ever realizes things that benefit us can ruin our environment greatly. Realization does not come to everyone until everything someone had, is gone. Our environment will be destroyed unless you make a difference and you change it. In both, The Lorax and Easter's End, they had a beautiful environment until they slowly started to cut trees down which in return killed life. In The Lorax they had new technology that helped make thneeds but polluted to air even more and helped destroy the environment faster. Even though Easter islanders did not have technology they did destroy their environment greatly. Our surroundings all depends on how we treat it, and it will be torn apart UNLESS we do something about it.
